Bacalar the 7 color lagoon has an approximate length of 52 kilometers for 2 kilometers of width in some parts. In this lagoon we can find cenotes and some are called: cenote black, cenote esmeralda, cenote cocalitos. As well we also find live rocks formations called stromatolites that have an age of more than 10,000 thousand years and produce oxygen.
We can also find areas of mangle and an island that is known as a home of birds. there is also very fine white sands, Bacalar lagoon it’s a fresh water lagoon, is a place where you can enjoy swimming. Bacalar city is located on the westside of the Bacalar lagoon and is currently populated by 30,000 thousand people, it has become one of the most visited places in the south of Quintana Roo.
This city dates back from the prehispanic age 400 after Christ and then will be a place of conquest by the Spanish in the 1500 after Christ, functioning as a military and commerce site in the south of the Yucatan peninsula and it was witness of armed fights with the mayan natives and english pirates.
